Dear New Patient,

Welcome to Northwestern Center for Orthopedics!

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about myself and my experience in healthcare. I am originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut, and I earned my medical degree at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. Following graduation, I completed my internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and at Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center, Department of Medicine. For the next four years, I continued advanced training in my chosen specialty, orthopedic surgery, as part of my residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo, New York. In addition, I pursued subspecialty training, or a fellowship, in Hand Surgery at Boyes, Stark, Ashworth, Zemel, Rickard, Inc. in Los Angeles.

My practice is focused on the treatment of sports- and active-lifestyle-related injuries and conditions. My expertise includes total joint replacement of the knee and shoulder, and orthopedic sports medicine. Currently, I serve as the league physician for the NBA and WNBA. Additionally, I had served as the Chicago Bulls' team physician and the team physician for the 1996 United States Olympics Team. It brings me great pleasure to apply state-of-the-art, proven procedures to restore known as Northwestern Center for Orthopedics in 1979, and since then it has been my mission to provide you the same excellent service and care that I would offer to a member of my family.

I am also Chairman of the Orthopedic Surgery department at the Neurosurgical and Orthopedic Institute of Chicago (NOIC), as wells as, the co-medical director of NOIC.

A former minor leaguer baseball player with the Oakland A's, I am an avid runner and have completed nine marathons. I also enjoy exercising, skiing and traveling.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further improve your experience at Northwestern Center for Orthopedics. My goal is to provide you the best medical care available.

I am looking forward to meeting with you.

Sincerely,

John A. Hefferon, M.D.

    From Dr. Hefferon

I do realize that the extra time we require before your office visit might be a little inconvenient; however, it ensures that we have your correct information to help us better manage your care.

Additionally, I apologize in advance in case you have to wait to see me. In some cases, patients require special attention or I may have calls to the hospital to manage surgical patients' care. Under such circumstances, the staff of Northwestern Center for Orthopedics and I will do our best to see you as soon as possible and make sure you receive individualized attention.
